Makrofol® DE 1-1 is permeable to infrared light. This property is used by The Surgical Company Group for its new Fluido® blood and fluid warmer, which is manufactured by Medistad Medical B.V. The covers for the warmer’s disposable cassettes are made from our polycarbonate film. This enables blood and other fluids to be warmed quickly and gently with the help of infrared technology so that they can be given to the patient at the correct temperature. Our film was also selected because of its excellent impact resistance, its transparency and the fact that it is easy to sterilize. It is resistant to body fluids, too. The special grade of Makrolon® polycarbonate on which the film is based satisfies specific requirements of international standard ISO 10993-1 relating to the biocompatibility of plastics that come into contact with body fluids and tissue.
