["Magical" ambient light - diffuser film for a flat-screen television]

Year: 2008
Industry sector: diffusor films/light management

Part design:

The new Aurea flat screen television from Philips comes complete with its own luminous aura. A lighting concept known as AmbilightTM is integrated into the set and bathes the surrounding area in colorful light. The light is transmitted outwards via the front cover and an intermediate frame with built-in “light windows”.

In one version of the Aurea these windows are covered with Makrofol ® DE 6-2 film. This translucent polycarbonate film converts the point light sources of colored LED lamps into even, whole-surface light which is projected from the rear and sides of the set.
We see tremendous potential in this type of light diffusing film – in lamps, backlight units of LCD screens and organic light-emitting diodes (OLED).

With Makrofol® DP 1243 we have a product capable of meeting the highest demands. The film disperses the light very evenly and with a high level of transmittance. In this respect it outperforms PMMA films, which have so far set the standard.
