Makrofol® ID polycarbonate film is the material of choice for producing reliable, long-lasting plastic cards that make life extremely difficult for would-be counterfeiters. One example is the Swiss identity card, which satisfies all the requirements relating to security, the latest control technologies and data protection. The card has a total of 15 authenticity features – some of them invisible. These are applied using complex printing technologies and laser engraving. Features include a kinegram, fine linear guilloché patterns, relief lasering and microprinting that is only visible under a microscope. Thanks to the outstanding graphic quality of Makrofol® ID, none of these elements presents any great problem. The identity card is valid for ten years, which places huge demands on its mechanical strength – demands that Makrofol® ID satisfies. For example, it has a much higher long-term flexural strength than other conventional card materials.
